Imperial Challenge Breckenridge 2026 | Spring Race to Peak 8

April 4 @ 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

Imperial Challenge Breckenridge Race Day

The Imperial Challenge Breckenridge returns on Saturday, April 4, 2026, bringing one of the town’s most unique and entertaining endurance races back to the mountains.

Often described as a pseudo-triathlon, the Imperial Challenge Breckenridge is a true test of athleticism, creativity, and mountain grit. Participants begin in downtown Breckenridge at approximately 9,600 feet above sea level before racing toward the mountain using either running shoes or bicycles. From there, competitors transition to uphill skis or splitboards, climbing their way high into the alpine toward Peak 8 at nearly 13,000 feet.

Altogether, the course covers roughly 10 miles of human-powered travel and nearly 4,000 feet of elevation gain, making the Imperial Challenge Breckenridge one of the most demanding — and memorable — spring races in Colorado.

However, the Imperial Challenge race is about more than just speed. Over the years, the race has become a true Breckenridge rite of spring, where locals, visitors, and spectators gather to celebrate the changing seasons in the mountains. Costumes are always encouraged, and racers often show up in everything from spandex and tutus to creative themed outfits, adding even more fun to the atmosphere throughout town and on the mountain.

The race route winds from downtown Breckenridge toward Breckenridge Ski Resort, where competitors begin their uphill climb before finishing high above town and descending back down.

Whether you’re racing, cheering on friends, or simply enjoying the energy around town, the Imperial Challenge remains one of the most exciting spring traditions in Summit County.

Where to Celebrate After the Imperial Challenge Breckenridge

After the race, celebrate your finish — or simply recover from spectating — at Kenosha Breck, located right on Main Street in downtown Breckenridge.

Kenosha is a longtime local favorite for racers and spectators looking to refuel after a big day in the mountains. Our menu features house-smoked BBQ, hand-cut steaks, juicy burgers, fresh salads, and Colorado craft beers, making it an easy stop after the Imperial Challenge Breckenridge festivities.

Grab a cold beer, share a plate of BBQ with friends, or settle in for a well-earned meal while swapping stories from race day.

Whether you raced to the top or simply enjoyed the spring energy around town, Kenosha Breck is a great place to keep the Imperial Challenge celebration going.
